Filming in Palm Springs and meeting Al Geiberger

As I mentioned in the last post and on my welcome page, I just returned last Friday from 10 days in Palm Springs. One of my students flew me out there for some instruction and we played at the beautiful Terra Lago Golf Course. The hard core golf fan will know it used to be called The Landmark and was the site of several Skins Games. If you ever get a chance to play it, do it! For the most part the weather was great as the rest of the country was going through cold and rain and snow. I had a chance to work with some old students (as I used to live out there) and meet some new ones and overall had a great 10 days of golf.

I also got to shoot footage for my upcoming DVD that will cover my overall philosophy of the body friendly golf swing and various drills to help your body learn the proper techniques to generate that effortless power. For a preview of chapter one of my coming e-Instructional Guide on the various power sources and how to generate effortless power, sign up here.

A really neat situation occurred as I came off the golf course one evening. I ran into Al Geiberger, “Mr. 59″ himself! He lives in Desert Springs and is the pro emeritus at Stone Eagle Golf Club. In case you do not know, Al Geiberger was the first player to shoot a 59 in a PGA event in the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1977.  The 30th anniversary of this amazing achievement was noted in most golf media this past spring. This mythical achievement has overshadowed the facts of his very successful 47 year PGA career; 21 PGA tour and Champions victories including the 1966 PGA title. There are more then a few who claim he had the sweetest swing ever.

I introduced myself when I saw him as Bobby Lee, David’s brother. He immediately smiled and said “Gravity Golf” I have the tapes! David was the one that came up with the system I teach. It was quite enjoyable visiting with Mr. Geiberger, and hearing that he owned the original tapes done by my brother back when. He was very complimentary of our teaching methods and agreed that how we teach a relaxed swing is key. As a matter of fact, he told the gentleman he was with “you could use some of this”! When I related this story to my webmaster he was upset I did not get a photo or an autograph, lol.
