Survived the Holiday and John Daly!

Howdy everyone! Yes, I am still alive. Been very busy with work here and keeping up with our crazy weather. For Memorial Day weekend we put on a scramble which was fun for all.

We changed hosts for this blog, and my online partner was occupied with some family health issues. That is why I am just now getting the post below out.

I had a great time at John Daly’s charity golf tournament benefiting the Boy Scouts.  They had a great turnout and it was definitely for a good cause. I visited with John briefly. As you can imagine he does draw a crowd. Plus being his home town tournament he was quite in demand. His golf course is in a beautiful setting looking across to Mt. Nebo and overlooking Lake Dardenelle.  We finished 2nd in our flight due to the great playing of my good friend Donnie Owens. If you ever wanted to emulate a swing, his is as good as anyones.  He is the epitome of what I teach.  Shame I did not have Robert there videoing him.

After the past 2 weeks finally got a little time to breath and relax! :) This morning I was hitting balls and worked only on my swing trigger.  It’s amazing how good your timing becomes when your trigger is working.
Tempo of the take away.  I can’t emphasize how important this is to make a good swing.  Hope everyone had a good memorial day and weekend.  To be honest, I couldn’t help but thinking of my friend Mike Thomas who was killed in Vietnam.  He was a good guy.  Bittersweet holiday when you realize what the day is really supposed to be about.

Golf Short Game Answer & Winner

A few posts ago, I offered up a free copy of my coming ebook The Effortless Power Golf Swing. The question was, ‘how do you control distance in the short game’. Well, Joe answered correctly! It seems he has either meet my brother David and/or read his book! (Gravity Golf, by David Lee). The old post and Joe’s answer (as a comment) are here: Free Golf Lessons and eGuide.

Distance is determined by the “intensity” of the backswing. David uses the term “heave” for the initiation of this beginning movement of the golf swing. The amount of force you exert on the backswing determines the speed and length of the swing. A common mistake is to think about the length of your backswing and/or the follow through on shorter shots. What you need to learn is the speed of the backswing.

Once we get my current ebook finished, which will cover the fundamentals and principles needed…….a foundation if you will, I plan to write a short game guide with videos of drills. In my opinion a lot of people make this way more complicated then it has to be. You can learn proper technique and more importantly what to practice and HOW to practice.

I am in Palm Springs, CA now (actually LaQuinta) as a student wanted a weekend of golf and instruction before I start my new job in OK. I saw and meet Doug Sanders today in fact! Will relay that and any other stories from ‘the desert’ when I get back next week. We had some technical difficulties, in regards to finalizing the ebook that look like they are ironed out and will get that finished ASAP. Joe we will email your copy when completed. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

The Effortless Power Golf Swing….

is coming soon! I was hoping this would have been available by now, yet Murphy’s Law has given us a few challenges. My host for this blog has been upgrading and moving and I really did not want to have a sales page for a few weeks and then have to move back. Also, a dear friend of mine passed away and I went to his funeral. During all this, I have been in negotiation for a new job which was just concluded yesterday. I will be the golf pro at Adams Municipal Golf Course, in Bartlesville Oklahoma starting the first of the month. So anyone in OK, or traveling through there this summer look me up!

This weekend I plan to add some audio and maybe some video to get the e-book, The Effortless Power Golf Swing completed. I see no one took me up on my offer in my last post!? :( LOL  We have some plans to do some fun contests for those that care to participate. The rewards will be some gratis ebooks and maybe some lessons. We have always planned to offer video and phone lessons, and are investigating the most efficient way to do that.  That will be later in the year as well as downloadable videos of the key drills I use with my students. However, the first priority is to finish up the tech stuff for my basic golf instruction e-guide. My host is hoping we should be fully operational by next week. I definately want to get this up before my move in  3 weeks!

Andrew Jensen Qualifies for Canadian Tour

Andrew Jensen Tee Shot

I wanted to congratulate Andrew Jensen for qualifying for the Canadian Tour for the 2008 season. Andrew was one of my junior students when I was teaching at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club in Ottawa, Canada in 2001. If you are ever traveling in the area, I highly recommend this beautiful course. It is a great layout with even better people. I wish I could say I was the one who was totally responsible for Andrew’s accomplishments, but alot of his success has to go to his father Al, who is a CPGA golf professional and very talented player. I was very honored that his father allowed him to come work with me when I was teaching at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage. Andrew is very dedicated to his golf and with his strong morals, I know he will be successful in his endeavors. I wish him the best of luck. If you want to follow his new golfing adventure on the Canadian PGA, go to his website andrewjensen.ca.

I have added him to my blog roll as I will be following the diary of his experiences of chasing the dream. To say I am very proud of him, and honored to be called a friend would be an understatement!

Central Arkansas Golf Academy

I thought I should bring to attention the facility I am teaching out of now. It is mentioned in my “About” page, but I was just informed not all of you are going to read there! I am based out of Conway, Arkansas at present and teaching locally at the Central Arkansas Golf Academy. They opened 2 years ago and is one of the nicest practice facilities you will find outside of a major city. It offers a spacious driving range and a 2 hole short game practice area complete with bunkers. It is also utilized by The University of Central Arkansas golf team as their practice facility. If you are in Arkansas, or plan to travel here, check out their web site and set up a time to meet!

As is mentioned in my “About” page where I give a brief bio, I will and do travel to students who are not local to me. I will get a testimony page up soon of some of my students across the US and Canada. If you have the time and resources, this is the best way to advance your game. It is not only more fun to play an instructional round then to hit on the range, it really accelerates the learning process.

In addition if you are traveling to Hot Springs, Arkansas my brother David Lee (the inventor of Gravity Golf) owns and manages a beautiful training facility there, complete with 3 practice holes.

Filming in Palm Springs and meeting Al Geiberger

As I mentioned in the last post and on my welcome page, I just returned last Friday from 10 days in Palm Springs. One of my students flew me out there for some instruction and we played at the beautiful Terra Lago Golf Course. The hard core golf fan will know it used to be called The Landmark and was the site of several Skins Games. If you ever get a chance to play it, do it! For the most part the weather was great as the rest of the country was going through cold and rain and snow. I had a chance to work with some old students (as I used to live out there) and meet some new ones and overall had a great 10 days of golf.

I also got to shoot footage for my upcoming DVD that will cover my overall philosophy of the body friendly golf swing and various drills to help your body learn the proper techniques to generate that effortless power. For a preview of chapter one of my coming e-Instructional Guide on the various power sources and how to generate effortless power, sign up here.

A really neat situation occurred as I came off the golf course one evening. I ran into Al Geiberger, “Mr. 59″ himself! He lives in Desert Springs and is the pro emeritus at Stone Eagle Golf Club. In case you do not know, Al Geiberger was the first player to shoot a 59 in a PGA event in the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic in 1977.  The 30th anniversary of this amazing achievement was noted in most golf media this past spring. This mythical achievement has overshadowed the facts of his very successful 47 year PGA career; 21 PGA tour and Champions victories including the 1966 PGA title. There are more then a few who claim he had the sweetest swing ever.

I introduced myself when I saw him as Bobby Lee, David’s brother. He immediately smiled and said “Gravity Golf” I have the tapes! David was the one that came up with the system I teach. It was quite enjoyable visiting with Mr. Geiberger, and hearing that he owned the original tapes done by my brother back when. He was very complimentary of our teaching methods and agreed that how we teach a relaxed swing is key. As a matter of fact, he told the gentleman he was with “you could use some of this”! When I related this story to my webmaster he was upset I did not get a photo or an autograph, lol.
